No Pasaran! They did not pass. Mobilised at 18 hours notice, a sizable counter demonstration in Wolverhampton's Queen Square prevented the English Defence League's attempt to march though the city to the Cenotaph. Local Hope not Hate and Unite Against Fascism activists, trades unionists and Labour councillors joined the call from our Trades Union Council to oppose the EDL in our city.

Express & Star editorial “Ugly morons who shame our streets with their ignorance
The wasted seed of the bulldog breed brought its snarling ignorance to Wolverhampton - and ugly doesn't begin to describe it. Yet for all their sense of 'history', not one had the decency to wear a brown shirt. Come on boys, know your culture eh?
After 20 minutes standing around, hiding their faces, a big fat pasty bloke crackled an invitation over a megaphone for 'anyone who wants to join us, step forward now'. He would have had more joy selling tickets for a Gary Glitter comeback show. It all went fairly smoothly apart from one potential security flashpoint when the police cordon missed the entire 'EDL Lanesfield Division' lurking behind their lines. Not to worry though, he caught up soon enough.”

WB&DTUC November 2010 Secretary’s Report

• Public services lobby of Parliament – UNISON provided a coach for local lobbyists; none of the Wolverhampton MPs saw us.
• Despite letters to all local MPs, none of our MPs replied to our request nor voted for the simple Lawful Industrial Action (Minor Amendments) Bill – this was the best opportunity for many years to have achieved any breakthrough in the Campaign to Repeal the anti-union laws. The Bill fell due to the lack of Labour MPs who bothered to attend Parliament.

• Kick Racism Out of Football leaflet of Wolves FC, 3600 leaflets in 45minutes and coverage in the Searchlight magazine.

Kick Racism Out of Football leaflet of Wolves FC, was organised via Hope Not Hate

victimised Unite rep electrician Steve Acheson (a previous speaker at our meeting). After another very long campaign, his Employment Tribunal agreed that the refusal of employment was because of trade union activity.
It did not uphold the redundancy as a false redundancy due to union activities - they seem to have accepted that it was unfair, but not proven to be down to trade union activities. He still has other legal cases including ET cases against major construction companies who are proven to have paid the blacklisting Consulting Association.

We also run a stall at Phoenix festival and took part in the anti-EDL demo in Dudley.

fascists threaten BilstonNorth - by-election Thursday 29th July to be contested by Labour, Lib-Dem, Tory, UKIP and the fascist Bnp.  Wolverhampton& Bilston Trades Union Council was already prepared and our Hope Not Hate campaign has produced a flyer offering an alternative; which we will deliver to every home in the ward in the next couple of weeks.

I would like to record the thanks of our trades council for the work that our delegate Rob Marris has done as Wolverhampton SW MP on behalf of trade unions and working people. The hardest working backbench MP will be something the voters of SW W’ton will not have the luxury of for awhile now.
Congratulations to our other delegate Emma Reynolds who takes over from Ken Purchase, who had an excellent voting record and was listed as one of the Morning Star’s Left MPs. Thanks Ken & Rob.

See separate Wolverhampton Anti-fascist election report our 41 volunteers delivered to 18,000 homes in 3 weeks in another successful campaign.

Stand Together Against the Racist EDL in Dudley on Saturday 17th July.
The English Defence League (EDL), a mixture of football hooligans and BNP supporters, again plan to march in Dudley.
When they came on April 3rd they caused the town to be boarded up for the day and tried to attack police and property, they say they are coming again and have stated THAT THEY DON'T CARE WHAT PROBLEMS IT CAUSES FOR THE TOWN !!
Like the BNP, the EDL try to claim they are not racist - yet hold anti-Muslim placards and sing racist chants.
Therefore it is important that we again show the EDL that they are not welcome in Dudley by mobilising as big of a protest as possible. Unless we do this, this time the EDL, with the support of the BNP - could march through Dudley unopposed, able to intimidate local residents and portray themselves as the 'sieg hailing' majority.

Our anti-fascist Weekend of Action at the end of last month was highly successful; completely leafleting 4800 Wednesfield North homes by Sunday lunchtime.

Dudley – 1000+ UAF counter-demo against 'English Defence League' went off peacefully on our side. Fascists who were well away from us, and we never saw, did cause violence from their penned in car park on an industrial estate. Our demo stopped them marching.  We had previously called for EDL to be banned.  Dudley was completely shut down and many shop workers lost pay.

Wolverhampton Anti-fascist election timetable 2010:
