Across every area the Government is forcing public services into the private sector. Hundreds of thousands of jobs are at stake. The pay, pensions and conditions of employment of public service workers are under threat. For too long, public services have suffered the worst effects
of the recession. While big bank bonuses continue in the city, public sector workers see their terms and conditions eroded and communities see their services destroyed.
Birmingham people will suffer the disastrous effects of the Government’s policies on privatisation. The city has seen the proposed market testing or privatisation of Winson Green prison despite evidence that private prisons perform worse than those in the public sector. In education, despite widespread opposition from staff, Birmingham Council has made the biggest deal of its kind to introduce academy schools – at least five will become academies.
Join us in Birmingham to build the campaign against privatisation!
The PUBLIC SERVICES, not PRIVATE PROFIT campaign is a joint union campaign to defend public services and those who work in them across the country.

petition reads:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to keep HM Prisons within the Public Sector!
"Public Services, Not Private Profit". It is socially unacceptable and morally repugnant, that those people who have been sentenced to custodial sentences by HM Courts, should be used as a means to garner profits for company shareholders in Privatised Prisons!
The petition has been approved and is now available on the Number 10 website
