Secretary’s Report DECEMBER 2017 Wolverhampton, Bilston & District TUC

Branch affiliations to us for 2018 along with nominations for officers are due by 1st January.

• Commuters from the West Midlands now face an average 51-minute daily journey – the equivalent of 24 working days a year, according to TUC analysis released, an extra 3 minutes a day compared with a decade ago spent on congested roads and packed trains. This is however the least increase in Britain.

  The TUC blames growing commutes on three main factors:

• low government spending on transport infrastructure;

• employers not offering flexible and home working;

• real wages falling while property prices soar, making it hard to move closer to work.
