Key General Election dates for voting in this year’s council elections on Thursday 7 May
- Register to vote by 11.59pm 20 April 2026 https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
- Apply for a postal vote by 5pm 21 April 2026 https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/ways-vote/apply-vote-post
- Apply for a proxy vote by 5pm 28 April 2026 https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote
To vote on May 7th you will need a photo ID, like a passport, driving licence or bus pass see all accepted forms here https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id
If you don’t have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate (voter ID) by 5pm 28 April 2026. You need to register to vote before applying for a Voter Authority Certificate. Find out how to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate
to fill in an online form https://www.onlinepostalvote.uk/ that you will need to sign and send in
Completed forms will need to be posted to your local electoral registration office

If you haven’t yet Registered to vote, you must do before applying for a postal vote.

or:
- update your name, address or other details on the electoral register
- to vote by post if you don’t usually
- change whether you’re on the open register

or telephone 01902 551177 or email electoral.reg@wolverhampton.gov.uk to be sent a registration form by post or to get a form to vote by post
