Labour movement stalls – CND, Palestine Solidarity, UNISON, UNITE – Unity over Division , Amnesty, Morning Star newspaper, Indian Workers Association(GB), Communist Party, Wolverhampton TUC – Join a Union

Free mehndi and as ever, free veggie food provided by the Indian Workers Association.

Plus free supervised Bouncy castle for kids.

Sammy Gold https://soundcloud.com/sammygold/tracks first started out as a D.J. or toaster as it was known, in 1978 at 15 years old; a year later he decided to change his direction to singing and in 1987 came to live in Wolverhampton and linked up with Dread Lester, Ras Muffet and the Q sound crew. They released Sammy’s first single; his most successful single release came in 1996 a track called ‘She’s Gone’.

Sammy Gold has now linked up with various producers around the world to voice a selection of serious roots and culture tunes as well voicing many ‘dub – plate’ specials for some of the top sounds systems like King Earthquake, Jah Voice, Iration Steppers, Motivate Movement, Genesis Chapter 1, Tsunami, Sound Wave, Killer Sound, One Love, Ras Mykal, Chalicesound, Dubbing Man, Ras Kuntus, Dadawa Sound, Jah Militant Sound, Rebel Steppa, New World Order Soundsystem, Raggattack, Indica Sound, Dubcreator, Jah Hamma Soundsystem, Light Of Jah Soundsystem, Ola, Rebel, Stereotronic, Deep Vally Sound, Barbes D, Mighty Pastak, Jahlioness, Sting Like A Bee Sound, United Steppas Sound, Man Call Pj, Dread I Sound, Gadman, Ntone Dubsound, Jahson and Ceaser Sound.

Nai Whitts is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter from Wolverhampton, known for her soulful R&B/pop sound. Inspired by similar artists like Janet Jackson, Coco Jones, H.E.R and SZA, Nai has self-produced her singles ‘Limerence’ and ‘Playing With Fire’ now available to stream. Someone at the Door Samba band https://someoneatthedoor.co.uk/ is a community band of 30+ members, based in Worcestershire – founded in 1997.

One Love Sound System have supported Wolverhampton May Day since it began

We have a stall each year for free mehndi, commonly known as temporary henna tattoo. Mehndi is a popular form of body art in South Asia festivals and resembles similar traditions of henna as body art found in North Africa, East Africa and the Middle East.

Wolverhampton branch of the Indian Workers Association(GB) who have helped organise May Day since we re-started it in 1994, produce and serve free a vegetarian meal for all attendees each year.

Speakers:

Warinder Juss GMB National Executive member and MP for Wolverhampton West has had a long time involvement with Wolverhampton Trades Union Council as a delegate and taking part in all of our campaigns and activities from anti-fascist leafleting to trade union recruitment stalls as well as Workers Memorial Day and May Day.

Stuart Richards the new Midlands TUC Secretary was heavily involved with the mass trade union recruitment at Amazon Coventry warehouse while part of GMB.

Mia English is a member of the Young Communist League’s Central Committee, where she is an Editor of the magazine Challenge

Ashik Mohammed Nazar is the Indian Workers’ Association (GB) National Youth Officer and a Member of their Central Executive Committee. He lives in Birmingham and is also a member of the Loka Kerala Sabha representing the Indian diaspora of Britain with Kerala State Assembly.

We have booked a children’s Bouncy Castle (Bouncy Bouncy Boo) which will be open 6-45pm to 8-15pm and will be supervised. It will be on the enclosed grass area to the side of the main building at Gill’s Bar and Banqueting.
