Derby Area Trades Union Council warmly invite to join the Derby Silk Mill Festival 2026 on Saturday 20 June, commemorating the lockout of 1833/34, and celebrating Derby’s proud industrial and trade union history.
The day’s activities begin with a procession from Derby Market Place, with community groups and union banners. The procession will set off at 11:00am, with the march assembling from 10:00am.
The procession will end at the Cathedral Green, Full St, Derby DE1 3AF. From 12:00 there will be speeches and live music, alongside union and campaign group stalls, and family activities.
The Silk Mill lockout holds a special place in our Midlands history of industrial disputes and trade unionism, and the festival is an opportunity to celebrate that legacy while looking ahead to the future of our movement.
We encourage all affiliated unions, branches, trades councils and supporters to attend, bring banners and help make this year’s festival a strong and visible show of unity.
If your union or branch would like to make a donation, book a stall, or ask any questions, please contact festival convener fraser.mcguire@unitetheunion.org, or by phone at 07538359277.
