UCU took three days strike action at the end of November. The strike rally which our trades union council helped organise with UCUhad an excellent turnout and was well covered in the Ex & Star; speakers also from ASLEF, RMT, CWU, UNITE https://www.expressandstar.com/news/local-hubs/wolverhampton/2022/11/24/if-there-is-a-future-then-we-need-to-talk-union-rep-says-as-uni-strikes-begin/ The UK university sector generated record income of £41.1bn last year with vice chancellors collectively earning an estimated £45million. UCU said the sector can more than afford to meet staff demands.
ASLEF the train drivers’ union went on strike on Saturday 26 November. ASLEF are striking to achieve a pay increase that is higher than the 2% on offer from the Train Operating Companies (TOCs) – who are shackled by the Department for Transport (DfT).
RMT train managers on Avanti West Coast took strike action on Sunday 20 November in a row over the imposition of rosters expecting them to work 53hr week.
CWU have continued to take strike action in Wolverhampton last month and were also supported by Wolverhampton TUC delegates.
