The CWU’s successful strike action forced further talks.
23rd October 2009: Unconditional Talks Will Bring Dispute to End – The Communication Workers Union today (Friday) again reiterates the offer of unconditional talks at ACAS to bring the postal dispute to an end. Royal Mail has so far not taken up this offer but it will remain open
Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary, said: “We have six days before any further strike action would take place. Given the progress we were making in talks earlier this week this should be enough time to reach an agreement.
“We want to go to ACAS with no preconditions on either side to resolve this dispute.”
Notice for strike action has been served to Royal Mail for the following days next week:
next Thursday 29 October from 4am
43,700 staff across the UK in mail centres, delivery units in mail centres, network logistic drivers and garage staff.
Friday:
MDECs (400 people in three sites – Plymouth, Stockport, Stoke. These workers assist mail centres by reading and entering mail addresses.)
Saturday:
77,000 delivery and collection staff across the UK.
The Government and the employer are doing everything in their power to defeat this strike. It is an enormous test for the movement and solidarity will be important. Maximum solidarity is required – visit the picket line at Sun Street
