Disabled/short rally. The disabled/short route will form up on Bull Street. Coaches are able to drop off people wishing to do the short route at (or near to) Bull Street. However, any people wishing to do the full route are advised to get off the coach at that point and walk to Victoria Square as well. If any coaches do wish to stop at the short route, please do advise the police on arrival at Dartmouth Circus
Travel by train – For people travelling to the march and rally on Sunday October 2nd via train you are advised to use Snow Hill Station if possible. For those coming into New Street and other train stations, you are advised to access Victoria Square via Temple Street – Waterloo Street, as opposed to the ‘normal’ access via New Street in order that the assembly area can be filled ‘from the back’.
The UK faces insecure employment, low pay, and a drive to privatise public services. There’s a growing housing crisis, the NHS is going through the biggest funding squeeze since its foundation, and the education system is overstretched. Local services have been shut down as huge budget cuts are forced on councils.
Big business, corporations and the richest are squirrelling away money in offshore tax havens, awarding themselves bonuses, while immigrants are blamed for problems they had no hand in creating. And everyone else is told to tighten their belts. This is ‘Austerity Britain’ under the Tory government.
There is an alternative – investment in public services, in infrastructure, and in decent jobs for all. As the Tory party descends on Birmingham to hold its annual conference the People’s Assembly will too, in tens of thousands, and demand the alternative to austerity.
The People’s Assembly will be holding a major conference and a national demonstration at Theresa May’s first Tory Party Conference as Prime Minister. These events will take place over 1st and 2nd October demanding an alternative to ‘Austerity Britain’.
