In the wake of an announcement by the Post Office of 600 job losses in its cash handling operation, Supply Chain, the CWU and Unite are calling for the Post Office management to resign in protest at the government’s funding cuts to the service.
The job losses come on top of an expected loss of up to 500 frontline jobs from the franchising of thirty nine of its flagship Crown post offices and the loss of over fifty dedicated financial service experts selling products in branches through a further savings programme.
The key aims of the People’s Post campaign are:
Defend daily postal deliveries
Save your local Post Office from closure
Renationalise Royal Mail
Protect all postal workers’ job security, pay and terms & conditions
This campaign is not just about Postal Services. Everything is under attack. We now face insecure employment, low pay, & a drive to privatise our public services. At the same time we see a growing crisis in housing, the health service and education. We need to unite together and demand that this Government run the country in the interests of the majority and not just the few.
Now, there is another British institution under threat, our Post Office. While we have experienced the privatisation of Royal Mail, The Crown Post Offices are still under public ownership. This however, is being threatened by the current Conservative Government. The CWU and Unite believe the Post Office is in crisis and heading for extinction unless the government and company change course.
Stop the privatisation of our public services
